Hospitality
I. Israel Was To Be Hospitable.
- They were once strangers. (Exodus 22:21; 23:9).
- The stranger was to be treated as one of them.
(Leviticus 19:10; 33-34; Deuteronomy 10:18,19).
II. Christians Ought to be
Given to Hospitality.
- “Given to hospitality.” (Romans 12:10-13).
philoxenia lit. “love of strangers.”
- Example of Phoebe. (Romans 16:1-2). KJV “succorer”
prostasis - “a female guardian, protectress,
patroness, caring for the affairs of others and aiding them
with her resources” (Thayer).
III. Principles of Hospitality.
- When we do so to others - we do so to the Lord.
(Matthew 25:34-46).
- It must not be for recompense. (Luke 14:12-14).
- If must not be forgotten. (Hebrews 13:2).
- It must not be done grudgingly. (I Peter 4:9-11).
